I first began working in the field of mental health as an orderly in a mental hospital during high school and then I went to Loyola University of Chicago to study Psychology. After graduating I went into business and marketing and had a good career, but I was not satisfied nor fulfilled with this path. And this is when I returned to my roots and went back to school and got my Masters in Counseling Psychology.
With my Masters I worked toward licensure at two community counseling agencies. One agency (Renz Center) focused on drug and alcohol counseling and education, and the second clinic where I spent more time was the Ecker Center for Mental Health. At the clinic I worked directly with a wide range of patients who had moderate to severe types of mental illnesses. This experience broadened my clinical training and I clearly learned the type of therapy I wanted to practice. From there I opened my private practice and consider what I do now to be my avocation in life, rather than just a job.
Through the years I have participated in a lot of personal growth experiences which have enhanced my clinical education. I have gone through certification courses in Codependency and Boundary Setting, Parenting your Inner Child with John Bradshaw and Claudia Black, Hypnosis, Mindfulness, Gottman Method Couples Counseling, Men's Sexuality and Intimacy Issues, Compulsive Gambling, PTSD healing for all types of traumas, Spirituality and Positive Psychology Work. In addition I participate in a men's weekend retreat with Victories for Men at least once a year which has greatly helped me on my journey as well as the men whom I have referred to the retreats over the years.
I have presented on various topics for Linden Oaks Hospital in Naperville, Illinois including; The Role of Spirituality in Recovery and using the power of guided meditation for yourself and clients. And I have also run outpatient groups for a large hospital system covering a wide range of topics. I am board certified with the National Board of Certified Counselors, a professional member of Victories of the Heart, a Men's retreat organization based in Chicago and a Reiki Master.
In general the people who come to see me are usually referred by another professional and the majority are now referred by a friend or partner whom I have worked with in the past. These referrals are a great compliment and I am appreciative of the trust others have in the work that I do. With all those whom I work with, I believe I am receiving insights and education from them, as much as they are receiving healing insights from me.
